The Author — Living Legend
Col. Satya Pal Wahi, former chairman, ONGC (1981–1989) is an internationally recognized doyen of the industrial and business world — a legend. Recipient of three decorates, Honoris cause from Dhanbad School of Mines (1985) Roorkee University (1987) and BHU in 1949. Prior to joining ONGC, he was CMD, cement corporation of India; Chairman, bharat Ophithalmic Glass Ltd.; Executive Director, Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd.; Chief P.P & I, Bokaro Steel Ltd.; Manager, Heavy Vehicles Factory (Armoured Fighting Vehicles), Corps of EME (including a one year attachment with the British army REME in UK and Germany).
He is a multifaceted personality, who was the Chairman of the standing conference of public sector Enterprises; member, public Enterprises selection board; Chairman, NITIE, board member, IIM-C and IIT (Delhi), President of India Golf Union and Chairman, Sports Improvement and Development Commission of IOA. He is also a member of many professional associations and bodies.
In recognition of his outstanding contribution in various public sector enterprises, Government of India awarded him the Padma Bhushan in 1988. He was awarded the life time Achievement Award Petrotech 2007 for his services in the upstream oil sector. He is the recipient of the Giants international Award (1989) and Indian Geophysical Union’s Silver Jubilee Award.
